Carl Theodos Jaspers is a German philosopher,theologian and psychiatrist,and one of the main representatives of existentialism.Jaspers had a wide range of research fields throughout his life,involving law,medicine,psychopathology,philosophy,and pedagogy.His rich academic background had an important influence on his educational thought.Among many of his works,“What is Education” is a book that embodies his existential education ideas.In this book,Jaspers believes that education should awaken people's souls and free them to be educated.In order to better interpret his educational philosophy,Jaspers proposed authoritative theory as a source of education.As an important part of their educational ideas.Jaspers' authoritative theory believes that the real authority comes from “encyclopaedia”.“Encyclopaedias” are all-encompassing,and those who can use their consciousness to communicate with the “Encyclopedia” and achieve unity are “all people”.The purpose of education is to cultivate “whole person”.Only when teachers have the awareness of “Encyclopedia” can they provide students with complete knowledge and train the whole person.The authority of a teacher is not due to having knowledge and a teacher's identity.Instead,teachers have authority because they load the truth and pursue the truth.Authorities use the inner spirit as the pillar.Students admire teachers with excellent teaching ability and democratic spirit.Students grow up in the authority of the teacher and produce their own ideas and choices about the authority of the teacher.Authority is naturally generated.Teachers should pay attention to their own internal pursuit of truth and their own authoritative image under the feedback of the students,and constantly find and update themselves.Jaspers' authoritative theory has important enlightening significance for the resolution and reconstruction of modern teacher authority.From ancient times to the present,people's respect for teachers and the recognition of teacher authority passed down from generation to generation.However,after entering the modern society,due to various reasons,people questioned and even challenged the authority of teachers,and the authoritative image and influence of teachers gradually dissolved.The school system,which is the foremost advocate of teacher authority,transforms “Pay attention to teachers” into “Pay attention to students”.Teachers gradually become tools for management;the tradition which inheriting the work of serving for teacher's authority tend to raises a large number of questions about the authority of teachers,and the style of respecting teachers in society gradually evolves,It disappearing;The students and their parents viewed the teacher's point of view gradually utilitarian,thinking that teacher's education is forthe exchange of interests.At the same time,as a knowledge authority,teachers cannot arouse students' thirst for truth.As a disciplinary authority,teachers cannot make students realize that a balance between authority and freedom should be maintained.As a matter of inspiration,the teachers lack of love's pouring and communicating for students.Under the authoritarian teacher authority alienating and the self-enhancement of teacher authority weakening,the existence of teacher authority is in danger.Therefore,using Jaspers' authoritative theory to reconstruct teacher's authority should start from the aspects of changing traditional authority,perfecting system authority,changing knowledge authority,forming disciplinary authority and remodeling influential authority.
