Counselors, being indispensable members of the university's staff, are the organizers, practicers and instructors of the ideological and political education in universities.Counselors, this one"peculiar teaching body", will be confronted with more harassment of the role conflict than the others because of their dual status and occupational complexity, in spite that the Party and the government attach more importance to their cultivation. The traditional roles of counselors have changed along with the greater division of labor and the more subdivisible professionalization in society. Role conflict is more typical and severe with the reform of higher educational system.Based upon the theory of role conflict, the dissertation endeavors to analyze the current status and causes, and bring forward corresponding countmeasures to relieve the conflict from the perspective of the vocationalization and the professionalization of the counselors.The writer does his research mainly by means of document studying, survey and comparison.This dissertation consists of four parts with fundamental content as follows:The introduction expounds the reason, the academic significance and the methods of the research. It also summarizes the relevant researches home and abroad and clarifiers the basic theory utilized in this dissertation—the theory of role conflict.In Chapter Two, the author made the surveys of and analyzed the report, including the representation and negative effects of.In Chapter Three, based on the analysis of the surveys, the causes of the counselors' role conflicts have been probed into, including the educational background, the changes of the educational policy, the personnel system and the counselors themselves.Based on the comparison of educational management between China and USA, the fourth chapter intends to bring forward corresponding countmeasures to relieve the role conflict from the perspective of the vocationalization and the professionalization of the counselors, drawing experience from the management of the student affairs of American universities.
