With a new round of National Curriculum Reform of elementary education carried out, curriculum resources development and use is drawing more and more people' s attention in the educational theories and practical fields. It becomes the important prerequisite of reaching the new curriculum goal, as well. Compared to the traditional classroom teaching, developing and making full use of curriculum resources will be a great challenge to the thinking and teaching modes that people extremely limit curriculum resources into classrooms, textbooks and other teaching supplementary materials. Therefore, actively developing curriculum resources is a powerful guarantee of carrying out new curriculum standard successfully. And its functions embody in the following aspects: 1. Curriculum resources development has a great influence on national curriculum reform of elementary education; 2. Curriculum resources development can promote teachers' professional standard; 3. It will bring about a great advance in students' all-sidedly development; 4. And it has important significance in transforming learning methods."English Curriculum Standard" determines "developing curriculum resources and expanding the channels of gaining knowledge as part of the basic concepts in English curriculum " . But one of the English teaching characteristics is to let students learn English as much as possible in different channels and various forms. It requires us to set up a realistic language atmosphere for students to communicate in order to train their ability in using the English language. Thus, in the course of Senior English teaching, especially in the schools of Lanzhou, which is a less-developed city in economy and education, how to develop English curriculum resources is a pretty important problem demanding prompt solution.This thesis mainly deals with the current situation of developing and using English resources in the schools in Lanzhou and analyses the reasons for the problems. In order to improve English teaching levels and set up a good example to English teaching in Gansu Province, I come up with some suggestions and strategies that are suitable for English curriculum development in the city of Lanzhou.The whole thesis is made up of five parts:Part I focuses on the problems and then has a summary of the research both at home and abroad. After that I delve further into the current situation and the reasons through the interviewing method, questionnaire and so on.Part II expatiates the theoretical base in the aspect of doing research on curriculum resources and mainly analyzes the basic principles, channels and methods in the course of developing Senior English resources.Part III presents present situation and the problems in existence of the schools investigated in developing English curriculum resources.Part IV analyzes the current situation and reasons in the aspects—educational conception, the methods of developing curriculum, etc.Part V presents the strategies and suggestions how we develop and make efficient use of English curriculum resources in English teaching in the city of Lanzhou.
