The newly launched senior English curriculum reform, following the wave of curriculum reform of fundamental education in our country, has been carried out since the experimental version of General Senior English Curriculum Criterion was formally published. The English teachers in senior high school have to face the challenges brought by the reform and make the use of the opportunities to develop their profession and support the reform as well.Basing on the review of the ideas of senior English curriculum reform, the research has investigated by the questionnaire and analyzed the present conditions of professional development of the English teachers in senior high school, concluded the elements which influence the teachers' development and discussed the effective ways to help teachers with their professional development and realize the ideas of curriculum reform. The whole article is composed of 7 chapters:Chapter One is the introduction. It gives a brief production to the background of the study, carries on a synopsis elucidation of the problem to be studied and explains the necessity and meaning to research the professional development of the English teachers in senior high school.Chapter Two reviews the senior English teaching reform in the 1990's and gives an account of the new ideas and theoretical base of the newly launched senior English curriculum reform by contrasting the new curriculum criterion and materials with the former syllabus and materials to show the requirements put forward to the English teachers by the reform.Chapter Three is a literature review, which summarizes domestic and international documents on teachers and English teachers' professional development.Chapter Four is the research design, which explains the content, the object, the basic frame, the tools, the basic concept and the method of study.Chapter Five is the process and result of the study. Firstly it gives a production to the sample selection , the questionnaire design, the survey implement, data gathering and processing, analyzes the construct validity and reliability through Confirmative factor Analysis and Cronbach a Analysis.
