As the new senior high school English curriculum standards have been promoted gradually across the country, higher requirement are put forward for teachers of English in senior high schools, and high school English teachers’ professional development is in focus of social attention. Hence, investigation of the current situation of senior high school English teachers’ professional development, understanding of their attitudes to the curriculum reform, and exploration of their professional development strategies conformable to the new senior high school English curriculum standards are particularly urgent. Therefore in this research, Shishi city senior high school English teachers’ professional development under the background of new curriculum standards was chosen as the research category and studied from the perspective of English teachers’ professional development. By way of questionnaire and interview, the situation of the senior high school English teachers’ professional development was investigated, the existing problems were analyzed, and the effective strategies were explored to provide reference for enhancing senior high school English teachers’ professional development.In this research forty-four senior high school English teachers from the city were surveyed through a questionnaire and the results were analyzed through SPSS 20.0 statistical software. Besides, four teachers of English from four different schools were selected for interview. Through investigation, analysis and discussion, main conclusions of this study are listed as follows:1. Sex ratio of senior high school teachers of English is imbalanced;2. The senior high schools are in need of expert teachers of English;3. The senior high school English teachers’ consciousness of autonomousprofessional development is weak and thin;4. The senior high school English teachers’ professional identity is inadequate.
