At present, with the development of the curriculum reform in our country, the function of evaluation has to be changed, teachers should study how to achieve a fair and objective evaluation of students' performance and how to take advantage of the evaluation to promote students' progress.Portfolio evaluation first appeared in the early 1990's, when educators abroad began to use portfolio to judge students' work. Gradually Portfolio was used as the basis for educational evaluation. At the turn of the 21st century, portfolio evaluation has been introduced to our country and is attracting more and more attention.This thesis looks back to the origin of the educational assessment and gives an exposition of the present research on portfolio evaluation at home and abroad.
