《The Criteria of English Course in Senior High School》 issued by the Ministry of Education describes the education faith of New Courses Reform definitely as "instructing students to transfer their ways of learning to promote their abilities of autonomous and cooperative learning, and train their life-long learning capabilities". Based on the conception of human centeredness and students' development, the education faith of New Courses Reform is aiming at transferring their ways of learning, namely, changing passive learning into active learning. And it advocates the belief that students are the centre of learning, so teachers should convert their teaching concept to letting students learn autonomously. However, compared with those who study in urban schools, it is more difficult for students in rural senior high schools to transfer their ways of learning: There are a large number of senior high schools covering vast areas of our countryside. Comparatively, disadvantages in school conditions & equipments, students' poor preparations for further study, teachers' low qualities have become the obstacles of reform. Therefore, it is of great significance to do some research on the Teaching and Learning Reform in rural senior high school. To offer some suggestions on the New Courses Teaching and Learning Reform that is being carried out in rural senior high schools. As a teacher, I discussed some obstacles and solutions concerning Autonomous Learning in English learning in rural senior high school through my investigation, analysis, research, practice and summary. My work shows that there are many obstacles related to the autonomy in English learning, and some solutions are proposed. Chapter 1 focuses mainly on the definition of Autonomous Learning, Autonomous Learning in English, Obstacles of Autonomous Learning and Solutions of Autonomous Learning etc.I discover that there are many obstacles related to the autonomy in English learning in rural senior high school when doing research and practice, Chapter 2 puts the emphasis on this topic. According to my investigation and research, the obstacles of Autonomous Learning in rural senior high school are as follows: as respect to teachers, old teaching conception, poor teaching methods, subjective experience and stereotypes in teaching are the main factors; as respect to students, obstacles exist in poor preparation for further study in English, lack of initiatives and autonomy, low...
