The Communication Strategies Training In A Vocational School EFL Oral Class

This paper reports on a study of the use of communication strategies of some vocational school students whose major is English and the necessity of carrying out the communication strategies training programme as well as the training methods in the EFL oral class.The graduates from Zhenhua Tourism School mainly work in the tourism fields, so the oral English is very important for them. Students are required to have twelve English courses a week, including four periods for oral English. The writer has been working as an oral English teacher, and she finds that some students will try every possible way to reach the communication goal, although their vocabulary is limited, most students are reluctant to open their mouth! Except the personal characteristic and other factors, the writer notices that communication strategies affect students' communication competence greatly. "Communication strategy is a way used to express a meaning in a second or foreign language, by a learner who has a limited command of the language. In trying to communicate, a learner may have to make up for a lack of knowledge of grammar or vocabulary".
