As the primary designer, organizer, leader of a preschool, the management capability is the key element for preschool directors, and the communication plays the most essential role in it. This study explored the essence, the status quo, the effectiveness of preschool directors' management communicationThe study was conducted in Shanghai. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. 10 preschool directors were interviewed and observed. 90 preschool directors participated in this study by responding to the Communication Questionnaire which was designed by the author. The result of the questionnaire showed the status quo of preschool directors' management communication. The subjects and viewpoints of this study came from the data of interviews, observation, questionnaire and literature.The result indicates that the management communication of preschool director is a process in which the information, thought and emotion exchange between preschool directors and teachers. It exists in the whole process of preschool management. It is a systematic management process. There are five distinguishing features for the effective management communication of preschool directors: emotionality, identify, flexibility, openness and sufficiency.Nowadays, preschool directors are still facing many communication difficulties, for instance, insufficient time on communication, less understanding due to the diverse background and perspectives, disturbing obstacles, lack of communication regulation in preschool setting. Based on the key findings, the principles and strategies were proposed to improve the effectiveness. The principles for effective management communication of preschool directors are being respectful, trustful, honest, considerate and fair-minded. The key action-strategies include the paradigm shift, improving communication skills, building communication mechanism and enhancing the training on developing communication capabilities.
