For the development of society, people pay more attention to the individual research,so how to make the individual develop healthily in the intense society competition becomes an important topic in psychology. The motive theory of self-worth thinks the individual finds his value only when he felt he had the ability, and then produce self-acceptance and self-respect. Self-handicapping strategy is an action and choice to increase the failing probability that individual takes to avoid or reduce the negative effects caused by the poor performance when an individual performance be evaluated.Since the 1970s, the western psychology has carried on a series of investigation to the self- handicapping phenomenon. The self- handicapping is a kind of impression management strategy, which is the foundation of attribution, but not attribution itself. The behavioral self-handicapping means that individual makes the action to reduce success probability under the achievement situation; the reported self-handicapping has only a verbal expression without actual action. Men and women in the use of reported self-handicapping has no difference, but men take behavioral self-handicapping more than females. The research discovered that the self-respect is the barometer of self-handicapping, which means the low self-respect individuals carry on the self-handicapping more easily than the high self-respect individuals, and the unstable self-respect individuals also carry on the self-handicapping more easily than individual of the stable self-respect. The low self-respect individual carries on the self-handicapping to protect the self-respect and maintain public image, but the individual of the high self-respect carries on self-handicapping to demonstrate own ability and to strengthen public image. The perfectionist carries on the self-handicapping more easily than the non- perfectionist. Because pay attention to the request from other people, the perfectionist of the social direction inclines to use self-handicapping strategy under the public, but uncertain under the private situation; High individual guidance perfectionist is easier to carry on self-handicapping than low individual guidance perfectionist under the public or private situation.Studies about self-handicapping were conducted under the laboratory conditions before 1970s, and the application scope was narrower. After 1990's, the psychologists noted that under typical ability appraisal situation in the classroom and school, the student can consciously reduce or give up diligence and carry on the studies self-handicapping strategy to deal with the threat which creates to themselves. The school both provided the use of self- handicapping strategy situation for the student and the evaluation situation of using the strategy. Study academic self-handicapping for raising the level of the student's self-understanding, the self-respect, and keeping psychological healthy has the vital significance. The research discovered that the young people carry on self- handicapping behavior more easily when they are appraised by the companion than by the adult; the classroom learning environment has the remarkable relations with the self- hindrance use. When Focus on grasping knowledge in the learning environment, the self-handicapping behavior occurrence is quite few; when focus on the individual performance objectives, the self-handicapping behavior appears more.Domestic reach to academic self-handicapping, mostly studies the middle-school student. Very few people tried the university student as tester, especially the student for postgraduate exam who face to enter higher school and take up employment dual mission, bearing huge pressure mentally. Finding the factors of their self- value is undoubtly advantageous to protect the mental health of students taking postgraduate tests. So the present paper tried the postgraduate tests student as tester to study their self-handicapping behavior and the correlation influence factor.The personality is the important research variable in the psychology, which means that the personality decides the behavior method of the individual. The abroad only used the five factor personality's model to take the self-handicapping research, but there is still no the empirical research of this aspect in domestic at present. Individual achievement motivation to success is the embodiment of strength. this article uses EPQ-RSC,Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS)and Self-handicapping scale(SHS) to analyze personality,achievement motivation to the self-handicapping tendency influence, and establish their the way analysis chart. Through the related covariance analysis method according to the above purpose, the research conclusion is as follows:1 Generally speaking, the self- handicapping tendency of the first year postgraduate tests student is quite low, and the achievement motivation is quiet high.2 Students does not have remarkable difference in the self- handicapping tendency and the achievement motivation in the aspects of sex, profession and the review time, but achievement motivation has significant difference in the school registered. Students who registered outside university took high achievement motivation than the registers for this school.3 In dimensions of personality, the other three dimensions were significantly correlated with the self-handicapping tendency except the E (Extrorision-Introrision). N ( Neuroticism ) and P (Psychoticism) have significantly positive correlation with self-handicapping tendency, while there was significantly negative correlation between L(Lie)and self-handicapping tendency.4 There was significantly negative correlation between self-handicapping tendency and achievement motivation; There was significantly positive correlation between self-handicapping tendency and motivation to avoid defeat.5 There was significantly negative correlation between N (Neuroticism), P (Psychoticism) and achievement motivation, and significantly positive correlation between L(Lie), E (Extrorision- Introrision) with achievement motivation; motivation to success and P(Psychoticism) exist significantly negative correlation, but significantly positive correlation with E (Extrorision-Introrision); There was significantly positive correlation between N(Neuroticism), P (Psychoticism) and motivation to avoid defeat; and significantly negative correlation between E (Extrorision-Introrision), L(Lie) with motivation to avoid defeat.
