The self-handicapping is a worth behavior to protect their se1f-worth that people usually adopt to obviate the negative influence for failure, and it is can be seen in daily life and the exercise realm. Self-handicapping refers to the behavior of previously making an excuse for the upcoming failure or intentionally placing an obstacle in the way of one's own success, on the purpose of protecting or enhancing one's sense of self-worth in achievement situations. It virtually a passive adapting behavior, which with a strong indication of self-deceiving,would be adverse for one'growth in the long run. Self-handicapping strategies is any action or choice of performance setting that enhances the opportunity to externalize (or excuse) failure and internalize (reasonably accept credit for) success. The foreign country's researches on it have achieved great success, however, researchers in our country began to refer to self-handicapping from 2003,and there are few correlation researches in this domain.Achievement goal theory stems from the ability Nicho1ls theory, it is attributable to the capacity of the Theory of Motivation and attribution. Dweck and other early researchers into the mastery goal achievement goals and performance objectives. Later, Elliot and so also proposed including mastery goals, performance goals and performance avoidance goal close to one third of the structure. Although the approach - avoid the tendency to integrate into the control - performance distinction, and development of the achievement goal of classification, but this combination has not gone far enough in real life can not be fully summarized the achievements that may exist in the target typ, such as those individuals with high self-standards, they strive for perfection, never willing to make mistakes, and the trichotomy of the type which can not explain. Therefore, Pintrich, and Elliot and other empirical studies in logic and based on the mastery goal further divided into control and mastery avoidance goal close to the target, thus formed the theoretical structure of the four goal orientation, these four objectives are to master - almost goal, which focus on acquiring new knowledge and enhance their capacity; control - avoidance goal focused on avoiding non-performing, or to avoid the loss of existing knowledge and skills; results - close to the goal than others, focus on performance excellence and Results - avoidance goal focused on avoiding a worse performance than others. Objective: To understand the adolescent tennis players'status and characteristics of achievement goal orientation and self-handicapping, and to explore further the relationship between them and their athletic performance. Methods: 160 adolescent tennis athletes who participated in China Adolescent Tennis Championship were measured by"Self-handicapping Scale"and"Achievement Goal Scale". The results were used correlation analysis and regression analysis. Results:①Their self-handicapping were negatively correlated to mastery-approach goal, while positively to mastery-avoidance goal and performance -avoidance goal. There was not significant difference between the self-handicapping and performance-approach goal.②There was different in age and gender in the mastery goal orientation and in the performance goal orientation. The group of 13 years old below was prone to mastery goal orientation while the group of 14 years old over was prone to goal performance orientation. Male athletes are more performance goal orientation than female athletes.③Male used more self-handicapping than female, and the high level self-handicapping athletes had a worse performance.
