On The University-running Ideas Of Yale University In The Background Of Globalization

The last decade of 20th century witnessed a great upsurge of constructing first-class universities in China. However, many universities are heading for clear destination with a confusing understanding about the real connotation of first-class university, which precipitates us to trace back the developing process of first-class universities in the world and to explore the soul of universities---- the ideas of university-running, which are guiding universities striding forward and take a vital role for the forming and developing of first-class universities.The Yale University is evergreen due to the fact that she keeps perfecting herself on prudent reflection and forming her distinct ideas of university-running. This study tends to obtain certain enlightenments through exploration on her history and an analysis on her present condition in terms of the ideas of university-running.This paper tends to study Yale University as an individual case in order to approached enlightenments from the ideas of university-running in Yale for constructing first class universities in China through exploration on her history and analysis on the present status.The study includes six parts. Besides Conclusion, the main body is divided into fiver parts.Part one introduces the reasons why I choose this thesis, the significances of the study, the present research in this field, the research method and I will develop my thesis.Part Two analyzes the key definitions : idea, idea of university, idea of university-running and globalization of higher education. Part Three focuses on the development of the ideas of university-running in Yale in a historical view, mainly explores the historical development of the ideas of university-running in Yale University, including her religion mission, setting up the idea of Elite-education, stressing on Under graduate-education,upholding the idea of liberal education; abiding by the idea of professors-governing university and academic freedom.Part Four, from the angle of present, analyzes the characteristic of globalization in her ideas of university-running from the aspect of the globe, nation and Yale herself. On the basis of this, the practice of globalization of higher education is analyzed in the perspectives of curriculum globalization and extension of teaching fields; globalization of staff exchange and international communication and cooperation.In Part Five, enlightenments from the ideas of university-running in Yale are approached for constructing first class universities in China.
