From the point of sociology of education, this dissertation does the research of Chinese textbooks' development in the last ten years, and compares with the Chinese textbooks in China and English textbooks in England in order to discuss the influential inner factors of value orientation in Chinese textbooks, then attempts to reveal the trend of Chinese textbooks' development in the future.This dissertation is divided into four parts:Chapter I is the research of Chinese textbooks. Choosing the Chinese textbooks published in 1992-1995 and 2001-2002 by Pep and using two aspects of outer value orientation and inner value orientation to reveal the Chinese textbooks' changes on value orientation in ten years.Chapter II is comparative research on Chinese textbooks and English textbooks. Choosing the Chinese textbooks published in 2001-2002 by Pep and English textbooks published in 2005 by Oxford University Press and comparing the inner and outer value orientation to find the differences between them.Chapter III is the analysis of differences on value orientation between Chinese textbooks and English textbooks. From the view of curriculum standards, functions of Chinese curriculum and English curriculum, national ideology, national cultural tradition and globalization, the dissertation reveals the reasons of differences on value orientation through the knowledge and theories of science of education, political science and cultures.Chapter IV is the borrowing and reflection. Though comparing the value orientation on Chinese textbooks and English textbooks, author thinks the Chinese textbooks should pay more attention on fitting the student's growing, real today's life and combine the two functions which the textbooks are as a tool and spirit together. The development trend of Chinese textbooks for future is insisting national cultural tradition, selective borrowing from foreign country and globalization.
