With the value orientation of textbook as the breakthrough point, this research compares and analyzes the value orientation of Chinese textbooks for primary school of PEP edition in mainland China and Kang-syuan edition in Taiwan on the base of certain understanding on compiling principles of both editions. After comparing value orientation of PEP edition and Kang-syuan edition in aspects of selection form and selection contents, the result shows that both editions have their own characteristics in value orientation.Analysis on time of texts, author, country and types or forms of literature has been conducted between both editions to study the value orientation presented in selection form. In aspect of time of texts, mainland China prefers texts that are more classic, while Taiwan tends to focus on modern texts. In view of authors, although both Taiwan and mainland China have the problem of gender imbalance, the professionality and diversity of writers have been emphasized. However, authors of texts in mainland China tend to be those in the old days, and Taiwan would rather choose writers of the time. Regarding of countries where texts are from, both Taiwan and mainland China select texts from great powers, yet mainland China has wider international perspective compared with Taiwan. As to types and forms of literature, texts selected by mainland China are both literary and practical, and Taiwan pays more attention on practical style. In aspect of value orientation presented in selected contents, this essay elaborates deep analysis on theme and type of selected texts, the distribution of value orientations and the perspective of text selection, and dissects the value orientation of text contents. When involving individual value orientation, both Taiwan and mainland China focus on cultivation of good attitude to life with different emphasis and scientific approaches, but are lack of critical spirit. Meanwhile, they share different features in pursuit of moral education. In view of value orientation of other people, mainland China holds a preformed view of humanity with political atmosphere and more knowledge to the world, while Taiwan holds a generative view of humanity with the flavor of life. Regarding of value orientation of nature, mainland China emphasizes the scientificity of natural knowledge and appreciates the instrumental value of nature, while Taiwan focuses and values more on the interest of natural knowledge. Considering the distribution of value orientations, Taiwan and mainland China have different requests on value orientation for students in different grades. In the perspective of text selection, both Taiwan and mainland China are lack of attention on minorities and people with special needs. Nevertheless, the difference is that mainland China sticks out adult orientation and male centered mentality, and Taiwan stresses child orientation and gender equality.According to research mentioned above, this thesis has offered advisory opinions on optimizing Chinese textbook of PEP edition in mainland China, which is to enhance the contemporaneity, acceptability and applicability of selected texts.
