The objective of the new curriculum reforms is "for each student's development and for their comprehensive development". The multiple intelligences theory(MIT) can guide teaching practice to realize this objective. The theory advocates multiple teaching to develop students' intelligences based on respecting their individuality. This paper discusses the strategies of integrating multiple intelligences theory with the models mostly mostly used in geography teaching.This paper mainly includes four parts that are the research progress of the multiple intelligences theory, the teaching principles and practice under this theory's instruction, and the teaching experiment applying the theory.The first part summarizes the research progress of the multiple intelligences theory.The second part outlines the teaching principles under this theory's instruction, including the principle of teaching according to the students' ability, the priuciple of considering acceptability, the principle of taking accout of context, the principle of being democracy, the principle of combining goals and methods, the principle of being multiple and personal.The third part discusses the way to integrate multiple intelligences theory with teaching models, such as lecture model, case studis model, context encouraging in model, problem-solving model. These teaching models all have poteutial to develop the students' intelligences but in different ways.The fourth part, taking the problem-solving model as an example, does an empinical research on the students' intelligences. The results suggect that teaching instructed by the MIT can stir students' main role in learning and improve their interests and efficiency and thus can develop their intelligences. Meanwhile it is also indicated that the teachers should enhance their own quality, strengthen multiple intelligences consciousness, positively build harmonious and democratic atmosphere, and advocate the cooperation and individuality teaching to achieve objective.This paper finally points out the problems still existing in this research and the direction of future studies.
