The new century witnesses increasing problems and more complicated situation in ideological and political education in the college (IPE). And the IPE mechanism consists of essences connecting to, interacting with and restricting to each other and forming operation system, management standards and way of working. It works with each section in IPE, and exerts direct influence on running and effect of each section. Only can the running system which is adaptable to new situation of the IPE have an efficient effort on the whole mechanism. Therefore, to strengthen the IPE and get greater achievement, the innovation research in the IPE running mechanism should be carried out.This paper elaborates some points on the IPE innovation. First of all, it should define that why innovation needed and what importance is. During the process, firstly, concepts should be clear which builds a firm theory foundation; secondly, subjective and objective essences should be clear, namely status and characteristics of college students, teachers and IPE team, and which provides important basis for mechanism innovation; finally, shortage in current IPE mechanism should be found out, and which provide key support point to mechanism innovation.Furthermore, during research in the IPE mechanism innovation, besides knowledge about reasons for mechanism innovation, we should have a comprehensive analysis on condition of mechanism innovation research, and support concrete innovation strategy with feasibility study, and make it perfect and reasonable. I describe the feasibility of the IPE innovation for three aspects, namely attention of the Party and governments, long-term experience in the IPE and actual base of current IPE mechanism, in order to have stronger support for it.In conclusion, after elaborations on the necessary and feasibility of the IPE innovation, I introduce concrete strategy to mechanism innovation. Since innovation process of the IPE innovation includes education of college students but also management of college teachers, staff, the IPE workers, I divide it into two parts-management and education, in order to bring perfection to necessary sections of the IPE mechanism innovation.
