Over a long period of time, normal school graduates and junior college graduates have formed a preponderating proportion of our country's elementary school teachers. Such a situation has no longer met the needs of social development and educational development. Therefore, it is the trend of the times as well as the necessary result of our country's social, political, economic, cultural and educational developments that the educational background of our country's elementary school teachers must undergo a gradual transition to a new level system of junior college students, undergraduates and postgraduates.Taking as its title "A Theoretical and Practical Study of the Improvement of China's Teacher Educational Backgrounds", this research is to approach the relevant basic theories, agents, developing courses, current situations, measures, etc. from the angle of building up the modes of teacher educational background improvement.On the basis of making an exposition of the concepts and theories relevant to the educational backgrounds of China's elementary school and middle school teachers, the paper makes an introduction to the developing courses and current situation of their educational background, and makes an analysis of its character, tendency and cause of formation. And then the paper puts forward some problems needing attention and the recent developing goal. According to the relations between teacher educational background improvement and such factors as knowledge economy, scientific technology, educational development level, teachers' professional development laws, related national policies, teacher professionalization theories, etc., the paper makes a systematic research on and a discussion about the agents of improving the educational background of elementary school teachers and middle school teachers.In view of a certain number of teacher education modes, the paper makes some respective comparisons between, analyses of and researches on them, pointing out their significance and existing problems, and stressing the analysis of the 4+2 training mode in the respects of training target, offering courses, awarding degrees, etc. In addition, from the angles of subjective knowledge, system reform, mode building, etc., the paper advances the strategy of improving the educational background of our country's elementary school teachers and middle school teachers.As one of the important links in the organic combination of the theory of teacher educational background improvement with social practice, the position of teacher professional development school (PDS) is very important. The paper gives a systematic introduction to PDS's emergence, structure and characteristics, analyzes its significance and existing problems, and opens up some prospects for its future development.
