This research carried on the further theory exploration to the sustainable development question of the region education and formed the theory system about the sustainable development of Region education, using Literature retrieval method and system analytic method on the basis of the sustainable development theory, the region education theory and the lifelong education theory, the full text divides into three major parts.The first part, briefed the origin, the rationale, the goal, the significance and the method of the research and made the literature summary about the correlation research.The second part is the key point and the core part of this article. First, carried on the analysis and the discussion to the concept and the characteristic of the region, the region education, the sustainable development of the region education on the basis of the analysis, the critique, inheriting the predecessor research results and formed the theory system on sustainable development of region education. which included the connotation, the inevitability and the necessity, the goal, the principle on the sustainable development of region education as well as the factor analysis which affect the sustainable development of the region education; Next, the author related the reality, analyzed the characteristic on the higher education in Gansu Province, taking higher education as an example, and pointed out the development of higher education of Gansu in past was the typical stimulation -like development pattern, which was not sustainable, and analyzed the reason systematically. Through the inspection on development two kinds of pattern of region education—Stimulation -like development pattern and the sustainable development pattern explained the characteristic of the pattern on sustainable development of region education. Finally, on the base of the theory support which were provided by above content, proposed the ideals on the sustainable development of region education. First, transformating traditional education development idea, setting up scientific development view on the region education; Second, setting up the safeguard system of region education development through some ways ,such as formulating laws and regulations, policy and so on; Third, formulating the corresponding region education development plan; Fourth, constructs the basic pattern on the sustainable development of region education; Fifth, disposing the education resources reasonably, implementing sharing on the region education resources; Sixth, adjusting and optimizing the region educational structure, constructing the reasonable educational structure system; Seventh, founding the operational mechanism on the sustainable development of region education; Eighth, constructing study community, forming the inhabitant lifelong study system in the region.The third part has made the simple summary and the analysis to this research theory system, pointing out the successful place and deficiency of the research, and proposed the expectation to the following research.
