The difference of the students is evident. As a conductor, the teacher should try his or her best to reduce the split of the students, and improve the teaching quality of the whole class. The rapid development of information technology provides us with advanced teaching means—multimedia computer, which creates individual teaching circumstances. Especially in Junior Two, the difference of students is more obvious. Facing this problem, we have to reform current teaching methods, find an efficient way to improve the classroom teaching, that is, group teaching assisted by multimedia computer. The thesis is made up of the introduction, four chapters and the conclusion. Introduction introduces the aim and layout of this thesis. Chapter One is literature review, including"Research of group teaching at home and abroad and the brief review of CALL". It concerns Bloom's Mastery Learning, Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development, and Bruner's Discovery Learning in the research of group teaching abroad. We get the most important enlightenment from Mastery Learning: Each student can learn well through own efforts. It is the challenge to the traditional idea: the latent ability of each student is hoped by the direction of educator. Mastery Learning is also a useful try of teaching practice. It turns collective teaching, group teaching and individual teaching into the whole and seeks its best union. Vygotsky holds the views that there exist two levels of cognitive development: One is children's current developing level, and the other is the potential developing level, which is available under certain conditions. Discovery Learning states that the teacher is advised to create environment beneficial to the students'discovery of new knowledge. These theories provide theoretic basis for group teaching. The development of computer assisted language learning (CALL) has experienced three stages: behaviorism CALL, communicative CALL and integrative CALL.Chapter Two introduces theoretical basis of this thesis in detail: constructivism and modern teaching ideas of current English Curriculum Standard. Constructivism grew from the work of Jean Piaget and has evolved into quite a few ramifications. And each has its own emphasis and interpretations. But we often refer to the three kinds, which are personal constructivism, social constructivism and radical constructivism. Modern teaching ideas of current English Curriculum Standard concern"Facing the whole class; valuing quality education";"Stressing the whole class; respecting individual difference";"Broadening the medium of communication for students to learn and practice English by means of modern educational technology". Constructivism and modern teaching ideas of current English Curriculum Standard provide theoretic support for this thesis.Chapter Three introduces the aim of the experimental research, the subject selection of the experimental research, the time of the experimental research, the description of group teaching assisted by multimedia, the concrete operation of group teaching assisted by multimedia: group teaching of listening and speaking assisted by Multimedia, group teaching of reading assisted by Multimedia, group teaching of writing assisted by Multimedia.Chapter Four concerns"Data analysis and discussion". We see from the data analysis clearly: group teaching assisted by multimedia can meet the need of each student, improve the whole grades of the class greatly and minish the spilt of the students. So group teaching assisted by multimedia may be advocated in Junior Middle Schools. Discussion includes"Present findings and suggestions". Suggestions provide some advice for further research of group teaching assisted by multimedia.Group teaching assisted by multimedia is highly valued by most of the students in the experimental group.
