According to the current condition of English teaching in rural senior middleschools, the author carries out an experimental research on the application ofmultimedia-assisted teaching in Heyuan Lianping Senior Middle School. Based on theconstructivism learning theory and the input theory, the study aims at improvingstudents’ learning ability and achievement and enhance their learning interest.The author adopts the experimental research, whose subjects are Senior Onestudents in two parallel classes, who enter Heyuan Lianping Senior Middle School in2011. There are63students in each class and the experiment lasts for20weeks. Oneis taught with multimedia-assisted teaching method while the other is taught withtraditional teaching method. There are computers, projectors, camcorders, audio andvideo players, and the immediate submission and feedback software inmultimedia-assisted classroom, which makes the abstract language contents vivid,concrete, and attractive. Consequently, their English achievements have beenimproved and their English interest and confidence have been enhanced. As for thecontrolled class, only simple teaching equipment such as the textbook, the chalk, andthe blackboard is employed. The two classes are taught by the same teacher based onthe same teaching plan. The author does the pretest and posttest in both classes beforeand after the experiment respectively. Additionally, the students’ questionnaire andinterview are also carried out after the experiment. The data are collected andanalyzed by SPSS8.0.As a result, the application of multimedia-assisted teaching can improvestudents’ learning achievement and increase their learning motivation and confidence,which effectively enhances their learning interest. Their English ability is increasedobviously. Multimedia makes the dull and boring language contents become vivid andconcrete, which helps them comprehend and consolidate the language. The attractivepictures and wonderful audio and video materials do a great favor to their languageunderstanding and memorizing. The reading-after software, dubbing software,retelling software, and immediate submission and feedback software can help students reinforce the understanding of the contents. The relaxing and pleasant environmentdoes effectively enhance students’ interest and confidence. Obviously,multimedia-assisted teaching can effectively improve students’ comprehensivecapability and enhance their interest, which does improve the teaching and learningefficiency in English class.The application of multimedia-assisted teaching can make teachers workefficiently and help students enhance their interest, which paves the way for highefficiency in English class. Therefore it should be widely promoted if the conditionpermits in rural senior middle schools.
