China's Ministry of Education promulgated The English Curriculum for Full-time Compulsory Education and Senior High School in 2001 and then The English Curriculum for Senior High School (revised) in 2003. The two curriculums each advocates or suggests the application of Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT). They demand the teachers try to make the widest possible use of TBLT instead of imparting knowledge. Students could develop the language ability, thinking ability and communication ability during the process of accomplishing the tasks, thus improving the integrated language using ability.Task-based language teaching is still a newly emerging thing. For the senior high school teachers and students, the implementation of TBLT is challenging. So what is the situation in senior high school now? What kind of questions will they meet when they are carrying out this approach? How to solve it? The thesis intends to find the solution through the investigation of TBLT implementation in senior high schools.The thesis consists of three chapters:Chapter one is the literature review. It illustrates the contents of task-based language teaching. Typical definitions and types of task are presented and the features as well as theoretical bases of task-based language teaching are discussed in this chapter.Chapter two is a survey. It investigates the implementation of task-based language teaching in senior high school. After collecting and analyzing the data, there is a discussion from the following points of view: teachers'modes of thought and qualifications; the specific implementation situation of TBLT and the difficult points in implementation.Chapter three is the suggestion and inspiration part. To the problems in TBLT implementation, the thesis draws a conclusion that the teachers'modes of thought and qualifications should be enhanced, suitable tasks should be designed and the evaluation system should be improved.
