Objective: The aim of this study was to: 1.Explore the intra-structureof subject interest of Chinese and Mathematics, 2.Develop two newSubject Interest Scales of Chinese and Mathematics for 4-6 Grades (SISCand SISM). 3. Examine the reliability and Validity of the scales. Methods: Development of SISC and SISM were based on theoreticaland experiential strategies. After drawing forefathers' studies productionand interviewing with pupils, teachers and parents, proposed thestructural and content of scales. Exploratory and confirmatory factoranalyses were used to develop and evaluate the intra-structure of thescales. The reliability analysis included Cronbach'α, and test-retestreliability. The validity analyses include content, construct andcriterion-related validity. Results: 1.The SISC consists of 16 items, contain 4 sub-scales, theSISM consists of 13 items, contain 3 sub-scales. 2. Item Analysis: thedifficulties of items are between 0.65-0.83, the items correlate to its scaleis between 0.40-0.68. Extreme group studies showed that scores of everyitem in high-score group was significantly higher than those in low-scoregroup. 3. Reliability: the Cronbach'αcoefficients and test-retestreliability ranged from 0.55 to 0.85, 0.57 to 0.79 respectively for the scales and sub-scales. 4. Validity: Inter-scale correlations studies showedthat the sub-scales correlate to its scale is between 0.73-0.86. Usingstructural equation modeling, confirmatory factor analyses wereconducted to assess the measurement of the scales. The results supportedmodel of the scale. The current validity, predictive validity ranged from0.20 to 0.41, 0.17 to 0.35 respectively for the scales and sub-scales.Conclusion: 1. Factor analyses studies showed the structure of theSISC and SISM are pretty reasonable, 2. Psychometric propertiesanalyses showed that the SISC and SISM achieved good to excellentlevels of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and content, construct, and criterion-related validity.
