An Investigation And Study On The Education Of The Children Of The Cities' Floating Population

Floating population is a special group that appears duringthe period of the economic and social transformation in ourcountry. Especially since 1990's, with the continousincreasing of the scale of floating population, the structureof floating population in our country has also changed greatly.One of the most remarkable changesis the floating pattern thathas gradually changed from the past dispersing floating towhole family's floating, and the number of floating childrenis growing, which results in the problem of the children'seducation. Therefore, at present, it is not only a new problemto supply the floating children with education that many bigcities have faced, but also a new kind of education need whichappears during the process of modernization.The children of floating population refer to those who arebetween 6 years old and 14 years old (or between 7 years oldand 15 years old). They come to the city with their parents orguarder and live in the city for over half a year, they are inthe stage of compulsory education and also have the ability ofstudy. Because of the restriction of many facts such ashousehold register system, the system of education andfamily's financial situation, these children can't equallypossess the right to education, they are on the edge ofeducation, they can't possess or equally possess the right toeducation, which will not only influence these children'sgrowth, hut also will influence our country's nine year'scompulsory education, the establishment of social equal systemand the improvement of our citizen's performance; and it will surely bring hidden trouble to our social development.Therefore, it is very important to ensure the right to educationof the children of floating population, strengthen and improvetheir cultural quality.This thesis primarily applies qualitative research methods,which mainly consists of investigation study, document study,and exact methods consist of questionnaires, in-depthinterview, on-the-spot observation etc. The thesis tries tofind out the situation of the floating population'schildren's education through investigating these children'sfamily and school education. Then the thesis discusses andanalyses this problem and tries to put forward feasiblesolution to improve it.
