"Causal attribution characteristic" refers to one's unique way ofcausal attribution, which causes the unique favors of attribution.People's following actions are influenced by attribution of formerlyactions, so students' causal attribution characteristic of study becomesone of the non-intelligence factors which influence their studies. Howdoes attribution characteristic of study affect chemistry study, speciallychemistry problem solving abilities among high school students? How tomake students attribute positively in order to improve students' abilities?These are the problems we aimed to solve.Freshmen of Changsha Huaxia Experimental School wereinvestigated, with the own compiled questionnaires about the causalattribution characteristic and tests of chemistry problem solving abilities.Investigated students' attribution of successes and failures of chemistryproblem solving and examinations, the achivement motivation andsuccess expectation in chemistry study, the comparison with students'attribution of successes and failures of other academic discipline andinterpersonal communication situations, and the influence of causalattribution characteristic on chemistry problem solving abilities.Results are: There is no sexual difference in attribution of successesand failures of chemistry problem solving and examinations among freshmen in Changsha Huaxia Experimental School. The Obviousdifferences of success attribution between ordinary classes and keyclasses showed that improving of chemistry problem solving abilities isrelated to positive attribution. In key classes, boys attribute their successof chemistry exams to effort and ability, and girls attribute it to efforts andteachers. That means sexual difference causes the difference of causalattribution characteristic, then affects chemistry problem solving abilities.Students' attribution in other academic discipline situations is similar tochemistry.On the base of Investigations and attribution theories, positiveattribution guidance is tried on students in an ordinary class of ChangshaHuaxia Experimental School. Main measures are raises of attributionhabit, transformation of understanding about ability, goal guidance, inconversation with students, guidance in class and experience exchanges.By efforts in three months, part of the students' negative attribution hadbeen changed, and their enthusiasm of chemistry study and chemistryproblems solving abilities had improved to a certain degree.
