For the geography teaching in classroom of Chinese secondary schools , it is important to focus on fostering the students spirit of innovation and practical abilities and establish new teaching methody. In this paper, I suggest that geographic experimental activities can stimulate students' interests in geography and deepen the understanding and grasp geography knowledge, as well as develop students' abilities in doing and exploring problems. Therefore this study is of great significance.Based on the constructivism learning theory, and applying the system theory, the propagation theory, modern learning theory, modern teaching theory, this thesis studies, the basic principles of geography experimental design and its effects on geography teaching. Using literature review, expert consult and survey methods, it clarifies the experimental teaching system in the following six parts: 1)the current situation of the experimental teaching in China and overseas.2)the theoretical bases of developing the experimental teaching in middle school.3)the relationship in geography between the experimend teaching and geography teaching. 4)the basic types of the experimental teaching in geography.5)the application of the experimend teaching in the actual teaching activities.6)the summary and the direction for future studies.Nearly a year' s study finds that the experimental teaching in geography teaching plays important roles as follows: 1)the research on the experimental teaching in geography provides refereatial experiences for promoting quality education and improving the overall quality of teaching .2)it improves students' abilities and spirit of innovation by asking the students to collect information, materials and to sort out and use the materials ,and to write report and produce their own works.3)it let the students to better understand their home town and stimulate their love for nature, and their home town as well as enhance the students ' awareness in environmental protection and sustainable development .4)it cultivate the students' spirit of unity and cooperation.5)it improves the quality of teaching and the students' comprehensive quality.
