A Study On Cultivating Learning Interest Of Art Students In Senior Middle School

At present, the influence of testing-orientated language teaching results in the fact that the traditional teaching method --- Grammar -translation method is adopted in language teaching in China. The teachers focus on telling students some grammar knowledge, care little about the situational teaching, and neglect developing students' competence of using the language. The whole class was made dull and depressed, and students are not active with low interest in learning English. Therefore, students' achievenment in language learning is not satistfactory.With the increasing number of art students, they formed a special group in the secondary schools in the past few years. People pay little attention to the distinct personality and literacy of the art students, especially their poor English performance.The thesis expounds the pushing function of interest in learning English from the perspectives of pedagogy and psychology. Interest in learning is in fact the most meaningful element among the learning motives. Students' concentration, their sharp perception, lively thinking, abundant imatination, rich inspiration and strong confidence in learning should be stimulated and developed. The thesis lays stress on the language learning from the learning interest, life experience and cognition level, to the learning method of learning through practice, practising, participating in, co-operating, exchanging, and initiates the teaching way through task-based teaching method.The thesis is based on investigating the present situation of teaching English for art students. It puts forward some strategies of fostering students' learning English, for example, strengthening the emotional communication between teachers and students, forming co-operative, hammonious and interactive relationship; making the classroom as main channels to develop various teaching activities; making the classroom teaching artistic in art design and display by various extracurricular activities on art students speciality, such as English bulletion, English handwriting, English songs, English plays. These will greatly improve students' interest in learning English.During the teaching practice of art classes, the author conducted an emperical study on stimulating art students' interest in English learning by making use of many kind of teaching methods, for example, object teaching, scene teaching, turning English class into acting stage, leading music into English class boldly, making full use of multi-media teaching, emplaying the emotional teaching method like encouragements, praise etc.A conclusion could be drawn from the teaching experiment: one of the valuable methods to enhance art students' English learning efficiently is to reform class teaching pattern and use various interesting teaching method.
