English, as an international communicative tool, is one of the basic courses in Senior High Schools' course systems. New English Curricula Criterion mentions that the ultimate objective of the course is cultivating the learner's competence of communication in real English. The quality of English teaching in Senior High Schools determines our national quality of English teaching in some degree. Integrated Senior High School (ISHS), as a new incorporate model of running schools by combining the Normal Education with Vocational Education, has been created so as to keep up with the development of educational reform and meet the needs of the market. Although ISHS basically belongs to the system of normal Senior High School, it has many characteristics of vocational education; for example, learners' low levels of English proficiency, their lack of self-confidence in English learning, lack of achievements etc. which are the main factors for the ISHS learners' loss of interest in learning and their deficiency of learningmotivation. The learners thus can hardly be expected to devote sufficient time to English learning. At the same time, owing to the pressures from so-called test-oriented education, English teaching in ISHS seems to be unrelated to the needs of the learners and, what is more, without considering the power of influence of learner's individual affection and learning strategies on the learning process. As a result, the learner's English learning potential could not be brought into full play, and the teaching can hardly meet the teaching objectives required in the curricula. In such a condition how could we expect the quality of English teaching and learning to be satisfactory.According to the current situation of teaching English as a foreign language in our country-English classroom is the main setting of teaching English as a foreign language, and based on the practice of English teaching and learning in ISHS, the author believes that arousing and cultivating English learning interest of ISHS learners and building up their self-confidence are the precondition and guarantee in the realization of the objectives of English curricula. So the author has proposed this researching theme: cultivating learning interest of ISHS learners through Interactive English Classroom (IEC). If we try to improve the quality and efficiency of teaching in the English classroom, we must first of all enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the English classroom. It is probably clear that IEC combines teacher, students and language. Through IEC teacher can create plenty of opportunities for learners to participate in classroom interaction in English and a living atmosphere where they feel motivated to learn. In IEC, by adopting task-based approach, using integrated interactive models and applying flexible and appropriate organizing strategies, so leaning interest of ISHS learners can be aroused and sustained naturally and efficiently. What is more, classroom interaction can facilitate achieving the goals of English curricula-enabling the learners to communicate in real English. As there will be a happy and interesting atmosphere in IEC, learners could be happy and motivated to communicate in English without too many fears of losing face. Also an equal and collaborative relationship between teacher and learners can be established, and the learners' competences cooperating with the others can be developed. At the same time, the learners' communicative strategies can beobtained in various interactions, for making classroom interactive reflects the nature of language teaching and learning. That is to say such classroom offers the learners more opportunities to use English for communication, and makes plenty of opportunities for learners to input or output English so that their stores of English can be increased. However, there seems to be some difficulties and confusion in the process of applying English interactive classroom, the author believes that IEC will be adopted by most of teachers with the development of e...
