Nowadays, more and more nations focus their eyes on sports psychology consulting, for increasing their athletes' performance in both training and competition. And a lot of researchers have realized that an excellent sports psychology consultant depends much more on some depth of characteristics than on the knowledge or skills he possessed, which is named as competence in psychology and administration area. With the approach of Behavior Events Interview (BEI), this research primarily constituted The Competence Dictionary on Sports Psychology Consultant of China (which includes 14 items) by interviewing 19 psychologists who serve as consultant for athletes in sports team. Further more, this research constituted "The Competence Model of Sports Psychology Consultant in China" and explained each items of the model. The primary conclusions of the research have followed:(1) The frequency of competence is different between the excellent sports psychology consultant and the generic ones, and it implies that the excellent coaches usually show their competence over the generic ones.(2) This research finds the excellent consultants are different from the generic coaches in 8 types of competencies though the analysis of average scores and 2 items of them show evident difference. And the result of psychologists assessment(3) The competence model of sports psychology consultant in China consists of the below 8 competencies: Knowledge application, Detail observation, Potential interventions, Teamwork, Role-adjustment, Self-management, Peer communication, considering the long-range interest of athletes.(4) The competence model of sports psychology consultant in China is significantly different from that of sports psychology consultant in foreign countries: they share no much in common. The differences mainly caused by different purpose of building the model, the special sports mechanics of China and the social and culture barriers between east and west.
