With frequent international communication, English is becoming more and more important and necessary. English teaching is given more attention than ever. In order to keep up with the modern concepts of teaching, the Ministry of Education issued a guideline for fundamental education reform and is carrying out the new curriculum. On the basis of the English Curriculum Criteria ( Experimental Draft ), the task of English course in basic educational stage are as follows: stimulate and foster the students'interest in learning English; found their self-confidence and self-esteem; form good learning habits and efficient learning strategies to develop the students'cooperative spirit, thus make a solid foundation for their lifelong learning and development. The nature of criteria demands that we should break the traditional English teaching conception, found a new English teaching mode.In recent years, the application of classroom interaction in English class has been a more and more important part and forms the background of the new round of curriculum reform in basic education. However, which kind of interaction mode is more effective? It is still in exploration. So the researcher carried out this research on application of group work teaching strategy in English teaching, that is, to explore the real effect of group work teaching strategy.The result of this research shows that group work is really a more effective mode of classroom interaction, which can advance students'motivation, resume students'self-confidence and improve students'achievement. At last, the limitation of the research and implications are presented.
