Recent years have witnessed the vehement discussion about the linguistic sense and linguistic sense teaching in the Chinese teaching reform. In this field, many Chinese educators have carried out extensive and profound research on the linguistic teaching. Based on that, this article intends to make some preliminary explorations into the cultural meaning of linguistic sense by understanding the cultural meaning of the linguistic sense from intrinsic nature to outer factors and integrating the theoretical research with teaching activities. The newly promulgated Chinese Course Standards of Ordinary High School (experiment2003) requests students"to own the good linguistic sense of modern Chinese and improve the competence in appreciating the ancient poetry". It also demands students"to have a better and profound understanding of traditional culture, excellent traditional culture, multiple cultures, cultural phenomenon, and the advanced culture". The thesis falls into four parts:Chapter1, the Understanding of Nature: the nature of the Cultural Meaning of Linguistic Sense The thesis defines the cultural meaning of linguistic sense. It is the whole understanding of the relation between the language and the context both in consciousness and sub-consciousness, and the perception of the cultural meaning of the spoken language, and the comprehension of the surface meaning and the latent cultural meaning, and the intuitive internalization and externalization about the object of language according to Chinese esthetic rule. It is the cultural understanding, which is gained in the process of accumulation and generation. Its apparent form is the competence of language. The characteristic of the cultural meaning of linguistic sense is the concrete expansion of the nature of it, which is the theoretical base of this article. The characteristics of the cultural meaning of linguistic sense represent itself as the unification of integrity and individuality, the unification of accumulation and generation, the unification of consciousness and intuition, the unification of tasting and seeking truth, in which the unification of integrity and individuality and the unification of consciousness and intuition are the integral features. They unify themselves in the cultural meaning of linguistic sense.Chapter2, Deep Understanding: Understanding the Cultural Meaning of Linguistic Sense This part further discusses the cultural meaning of linguistic sense from the perspective of hermeneutic, the characteristics of Chinese and the reception of students. The linguistic sense is the key to comprehend language and culture. The linguistic sense is one of channels to construct the spiritual cultural world of students. The characteristics of Chinese determine the essence of linguistic sense, which is the sense of language image, verve and mood. With the proper ways of thinking and expressing, the participants have inherited and developed the Chinese culture and formed their comprehension of the world. The linguistic sense also ensures the value and meaning of life and is the key to understand culture. The thinking ways and the characteristics of Chinese determine the receptive ways of the participants of the linguistic sense and influence the forms of generation of the linguistic sense.Chapter3, Comprehensive Analysis: the Factors of Cultural Meaning of Linguistic Sense The participants of culture, context, speeches, and literary classics are the influencing factors of the cultural meaning of linguistic sense. Human beings, with the cultural nature, are the participants of the linguistic sense and students'culture level directly influences the level of the linguistic sense. The sense of context is the main content of the linguistic sense. Langue and parole are the main objects of the linguistic sense. The activities of speeches are the principal channel of generation of the linguistic sense. The literary classics are the key factors to understand the cultural meaning of linguistic sense. The interaction of all these factors forms the"magnetic field"of the cultural meaning of linguistic sense.Chapter4, Reflection on Teaching: Grasp the Cultural Meaning of Linguistic Sense On the basis of theoretical research, this part explores and investigates further about the cultural meaning of linguistic sense from the perspective of teaching. Teachers can carry out the linguistic sense teaching according to the substantial nature of the cultural meaning. Teachers can guide the students to train their linguistic sense by borrowing the methods of reciting and immersing in traditional Chinese teaching, and literary classics teaching methods. In the activities of speeches, emphasis on the cultural meaning is beneficial to cultivate the linguistic sense of students and to promote their cultural qualities. In a sense, the linguistic sense is the key of students to understand and construct their spiritual cultural world. The linguistic sense teaching can scientifically develop by basing on the generation of the cultural meaning of linguistic sense since. it is the nature of the linguistic sense teaching. The innovation of the thesis lies in the firstly putting forward of the notion of"the cultural meaning of linguistic sense", and the linguistic sense is the key to understand language and culture, and the essence of the linguistic sense is the sense of linguistic image and verve and the sense of mood.
