As is known to all, the growth and development of childen has close relation with the involvement of parents in family education. In daily life, people always regarded mother as being the leader, while father as being outside of fostering the children. As a matter of fact, father as well as mother all play an irreplaceable part in the process of children's development. People has realized the importance of fatners'role, but they seldom put it in their behavior. Due to the change and reform of society and change of people' way of thinking, reorientation for father's role becomes an extremely urgent task. With the large increase of single-parents and working-outside-parents families, the issue about the lack and insufficient of father involvemnet becomes more and more conspicuous.Therefore, studying the role of father can offer an important theoretical guidance for children's education. Moreover, the study of father's role has an important reference value for the domain of pedagogy, social sciences and so on. Here we explore the effect of the father's role on children's development as following several aspects: firstly, the meaning of the role of father; secondly, the history of the research on the role of father; thirdly, the model of the role of father'theory; fourthly, the influencing factors of the involvement of father; fifthly, the influence of father's role on different aspects of children's development; sixthly, prospect and localization of the research on the role of father, hoping for spurring researcher's further exploration and social attention.
