A Good Father In My Heart—a Qualitative Study Of The Father's Role Expectations Of Fathers, Mothers, And Young Children

With the change of society,we attach increasing importance to the effect of father.The stereotyped image of the traditional father is fading.The stereotyped thinking,"Man is in charge of the outside affairs while women is in charge of the family " also being changed silently.People 's expectation on father role is totally different as before.This research focus on the role's expectation to the pre-school aged children's father.And the object of this research focus on three target groups,t hey are the pre-school aged children,the mother and the father.The main purpose of this research is to know the expectation from each group,and try to find their common point and the difference.In this research,interviews method is used basic on qualitative research.The children,the mother and the father were interviewed.Both of the mothers and the fathers were interviewed individually.There is a little difference between the parents and the children.Consider of the age characteristic of the children,a co MB-20171203 ination of the group interview and drawing were used.The main purpose is to make the children tell their thinking as much as possible.The core of mother's expectation to the father role is the "heart".Firstly,in mother's expectation,they expect the father who really have a heart to become a good father.In addition,mothers also hope father can grow continuously in order to perform a complete state to give consideration to the multiple roles and to balance work and the family.Several mothers show the expectation of a superman's style.As the actor,the father's expectation of themselves is take core of "the father's image.In their expectation,the current father will say "no" to the traditional father.They suppose to support the children's aspiration.Good father should set aside time to company their kids.Father regards it as the requirement to become that.They also assert a claim on the company's style.In addition,fathers also hope that the good father should be a good learner,a good guide,the main power of a family,a protector of the kids.Ultimately,a good father is a father who loves his children very much.There are both common point and difference between fathers and mothers.The common point is,both fathers and mothers regard the company as the most important condition to a good father.Besides,both of them think that a good father should join the children's daily life " fatherly",to form a complementation with mother,maximize the effect of cooperative education.The difference between them reflect on their different standard of evaluation and the content of expectation.On the standard,mothers like to use the bottom line evaluation while fathers like to use the full scale evaluation.On the content of expectation,mothers have a requirement on taking economic responsibility,participating in all aspect of daily life,while fathers didn't mention a lot.Compared with mothers,there also has some aspect which mothers didn't mention.Fathers expectation is more abundant,including the image and to establish a "special" relationship with their children etc..Compared with parent,children's expectation seems especially easy and easily to be done.Research found that children's expectation to a good father can be divided into three part: physiognomic expectation,functional expectation,emotional expectation and corrective expectation.Researcher found that children equate a good father with their real father.Although they showed much "dissatisfaction" about their real father,children still trust their real father a lot in fact.This research compared the expectation of these three group.Give some suggestion on how to look on father role objectively,and how to promote the action on father role.That makes us know the modern father role,know the parents' cognition degree of father role,and make father to play better role during the children's growing.
