Study On The Related Elements Of Physical Self Satisfaction Among College Students

Objective: In order to study the factors which influence physical selfsatisfaction and physical self satisfaction's influence to mental health, westudied the relationship of physical self satisfaction and common factors, theexperience of abuse and neglect in childhood and mental health.Method: Classified on class, we used common factor questionnaire,college and middle school student physical self scale, psychological abuseand neglect scale, CECA.Q, SCL-90 to investigate college students.Result: We found that there were variations about sex features andnegative features in different colleges. Medical students were more satisfiedwith their negative body features than commercial students. But malecommercial students were more satisfied with there sex features than medicalstudents. Additionally, we found the more senior the grade, the highersatisfaction to negative character, but not related to age. Boys'each factor ofphysical self satisfaction and physical self satisfaction total score were higherthan girls'except negative features and common appearance features.Minority Girls'satisfaction to sex features was down to that of Han girls. Theheight of students positively correlated with figure features, satisfaction toheight, negative features and physical self satisfaction total scores. However,girls higher than 174cm were less satisfied than lower ones. The satisfaction of fat, weight and figure was related with BMI of students. In details, boyswhose BMI were in the normal range were most satisfied with their body,showing that the boys'attitude towards weight was healthy on the whole.While in girls, we found the lower the BMI, the more satisfaction to theirfigure. However, very interestingly, the girls whose BMI was higher than 27were most satisfied with their figure. There was a negative correlationbetween physical self satisfaction and psychological abuse and neglect inchildhood. Mother's maltreatment influenced their offspring's satisfaction tophysical self, but fathers'maltreatment did not. Boys'correlation of physicalself satisfaction and psychological abuse and neglect were higher than that ofgirls'. Negative correlation between physical self satisfaction and SCL-90totally score (male-0.401 P＜0.001,female-0.395 P＜0.001) were relativelyhigh. The scores of SCL-90 were different in different groups of girls whichwere classified by weight satisfaction. The scores of SCL-90 were different indifferent groups of boys and girls which were classified by heightsatisfaction.Conclusion: The height of students positively correlated with heightsatisfaction. However, girls higher than 174cm were less satisfied than lowerones. Boys'attitude to weight was normal and girls had the trend to sufferingeating disorder and obese. The influence of girls'height and BMI to girls'physical self satisfaction was higher than that of boys'. Boys'each factor of physical self satisfaction and physical self satisfaction total score were higherthan girls'except negative features and common appearance features. Boyswere more liable to be influenced by maltreatment in childhood than girls.Mother's maltreatment influenced their offspring's satisfaction to. physicalself more than fathers'did. Neglect did more harm to boys than abuse did.Girls'physical self satisfaction was mainly influence by psychological abuse.Students of different college had different physical self satisfaction. MinorityGirls'satisfaction to sex features was down to that of Han girls. Additionally,we found the more senior the grade, the more satisfaction to negativecharacter. Physical self satisfaction highly affected mental health and heightand BMI had little effect to mental health.
