Since 1960s,postmodernism which is the most influential cultural ideological trend in the modern west started to spread rapidly and it has been prevalent in philosophy, sociology, art, religion and so on, as well as in education. Post-modern educational thought which is apart of the postmodern ideological trend is formed on the basis of people's introspection of modernity of education. Some masters of postmodernism expressed their ideas of the weaknesses of the present education. This thesis, based on the arguments of these postmodern thinkers about the teacher and student, expounds the rationality of the existence of the teacher and student, the authority of the teacher and so on in postmodern background. It will affirm the value of the relation between teacher and student, and at the same time, it will close the problems and weaknesses of them and provide the answers to the following problems for teachers and students, such as how to realize themselves, how to re-construct new relation between teachers and students.This thesis is composed of three parts. The first part is the introduction, which includes why such a topic is chosen and research methods and so on. The introduction will also explain the basic concepts, such as the relation between teacher and student, the background and characteristics of postmodernism and its main influence on education. The second part is the main body, which first expounds the views of the teacher and student of the five postmodern representatives, and then questions the reality from the two following questions, "Whether the teacher is still needed and what kind of relation between teacher and student is needed?", " Whether the teacher have authority and what authority should he have". Then talk about the rationality and weakness of postmodern view of the teacher and student. The third part is the conclusion, which deals with its enlightenment and instruction to the present relation between teacher and student in our country, the aim is to re-construct new relation between teacher and student.
