With the development of higher education reforms in China, many universities are now considering the faculty employment and appointment system as an important method to improve the academic level. However, problems still exist in this system in Chinese universities. For example, some people have prejudice over the faculty employment and appointment system; many universities don't comprehend the potential meaning of the system and fail to imply a scientific and reasonable one. Therefore, we need to summarize the successful experience of both the domestic and abroad in the faculty employment and appointment system with an aim to adjust and deepen the faculty employment and appointment system reform in Chinese university.Backed on the studying of the history and actuality of the faculty employment and appointment system in university in the United States and China, the author analyzes the characteristics of both systems respectively. By analyzing the system in Harvard and Peking University, the thesis summarizes the similarities and differences in the faculty employment and appointment system between those two universities; it also puts forward some suggestions of perfecting the faculty employment and appointment system in Chinese university.The thesis consists of five chapters. In the first chapter the concept of the faculty employment and appointment system in university and the background are introduced. In the second and third chapter, the author elaborates the system in both American and Chinese university, and compares their performance and characteristics respectively. In the fourth chapter, the author introduces the implement of the faculty employment and appointment system in Harvard and Peking University respectively, and analyses the similarities and differences in the system between those two universities. In the last chapter, the author mainly adapts the successful points of the faculty employment and appointment system in university in America, and fastens the reform of the faculty employment and appointment system in Chinese university.
