As the world's most famous first-rate university,Harvard University's success depends not only on strong financial support and advanced educational concepts,but also on its own well-established system of teacher appointment.The first-class teacher team is the foundation for building a world-class university,and the advanced teacher employment system is the institutional guarantee for the formation of a first-class teacher team.Based on this,this article uses the literature research method and the comparative study method to carry on the more systematic research to the teacher employment system of Harvard University,in the hope of helping our country's college teacher appointment system reform and the construction of the world first-rate university.This article first defines the core concept of the “teacher engagement system”,and then examines the formation and development of the teacher appointment system at Harvard University from a historical perspective.It focuses on the principles and qualifications of employment,the type of appointment,and the appointment of Harvard's teachers after the Second World War.Procedures,assessments and promotion mechanisms.After a systematic review of Harvard's teacher appointment system,this article further summarizes the fair and open recruitment process,scientific and reasonable assessment system and other characteristics of Harvard's teacher appointment system.Any system has its specific background.The formation of Harvard's teacher appointment system also has its specific historical background and opportunities.Therefore,after introducing the current status of Harvard's teacher appointment system after World War II,the paper discusses Harvard University is able to establish a comprehensive system of teacher appointments for social,economic,political,and cultural factors.In the end,this paper discusses the existing problems and the strategies for improving the employment of university faculty in China.At the present stage,there is an administrative force in the university faculty employment system,which has caused too many academic interventions,teachers' mobility difficulties,and the teacher's legitimate rights and interests are not effectively guaranteed.Teachers cannot get enough personal development and other issues.These problems have seriously hampered the construction of high-level teachers in our country,and are not conducive to the transformation of our country from a large country of higher education to a strong country of higher education.Based on the above analysis and combined with the reality of the current university teacher appointment system in China,it is urgent to establish a scientific and perfect teacher employment mechanism.
