The Present Situation, Problems And Countermeasures Of National Chemistry Contest For Senior Middle School Students (Guizhou Province)

Chemistry Olympic contest is a kind of intelligence contest of chemistry that has been spread all over the world. It enjoys a history of over twenty years at home since it first appeared in China in 1984. The delegation of China attended the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) in 1987 for the first time. Over the past twenty years, Chinese candidates have made brilliant achievements in the contests.Chemistry contest is an important way of cultivating top students in the senior high school, embodying chemistry is a subject which values individual difference while facing all the students. Nowadays, the prevalence of chemistry contests has contributed to establishing a multilayer and multilevel pattern of contest, which ranges from junior middle schools to senior middle schools and from local areas to the whole country. In fact, millions of middle school students annually take part in chemistry contests of different levels. And brilliant achievements have been made in the teaching of the chemistry contest, which has attracted the world's attention. On the other hand, there are some problems with the chemistry contest which can not be overlooked, like training inflexibly by stuffing exercises and grade-oriented practices.Firstly, the history, aim and rule of International Chemistry Olympiad contest and national chemistry contest were introduced in the thesis. Secondly,through the analysis of the test questions of national chemistry preliminary contest of senior high school students from 1997 to 2006,the characteristic and proposition trend were discussed. Thirdly,the situation of Guizhou Province's candidates taking part in national chemistry preliminary contest of senior high school of 2005 and 2006 were analyzed, the problems appeared in examination paper were summed up. This article bases on the competition process, during the research and interview of teachers, students taking part in the chemistry contest, trying to discover the appeared problems existed in the chemistry contest. At last, unifing the practical condition of Guizhou Province, some suggestions were proposed for the training of chemistry contest .
