Being widespread and essential for higher education, PE in universities has become an important content for students' daily life and study nowadays. In addition, it is an important means for overall development. Adapted to its life long, socialized, individualized and scientific development, the request for coming close to students' life and personal development as well as training them to create and getting used to life, university PE courses pass on the knowledge , techniques and skills about body building. They also encourage students to participate in all kinds of sports, by which they advertise the idea: "Health the first" and "Life long sports" among university students. It is of practical and long term meaning for promoting university students healthy life style.Based on the relevant theories and practice, in accordance with the understanding of the modern courses, pedagogy, athletics, psychology, behavior learning, etc., the research is to construct a basis for rock-climbing education in universities. It analyses if the course is in date, effective and prospective and provides the theoretical and facts proof for introducing the new sport project to the university PE system. It adopts data analysis, questionnaire survey, experts' interviews, and systematic analysis, etc. from the angle of pedagogy, psychology, the athletics learning, sociology and behavior learning, etc. to research on the connotation, structure, feature and function of university PE courses. It also uncovers the puzzles that the courses are faced with and explores the scientific proof and theoretical system for university rock-climbing courses. The contents of this research are as following:1. Based on the full understanding of the modern teaching methodology, it clearly analyze the connotation, structure, feature and function of university PE, through which theoretical proof and ways of thinking for the research have been provided.2. Through the combination of scientific arguments and substantial evidence, the comprehensive effects for students' physical and mental development have been stated, which provide good proof for the widespread of rock-climbing course in universities.3. It put forward the whole conception and details for completion from the angle of university PE course plan to construct the terrace of rock-climbing course in universities.4. According to the current status and development of rock-climbing course in universities of Chengdu, having the university PE development objective and tendency in mind, the research conclude that it is of good prospect for the rock-climbing course in universities and put forward some countermeasures for the problems existing in the current university rock-climbing course.Strengthening the PE course research is the requirement for the PE reform in higher education, for the enrichment of PE theories and for the smooth development of PE courses. This research places opening up the rock-climbing course in the social historical circumstances. In regard to the relationship between the rock-climbing course and the external social condition, the relationship among the features of the course and the relationship among the specific factors in the courses of operation as well, the research masters the systematic category of the university rock-climbing courses and uncovers the pattern of the rock-climbing course as the guideline for the practice of the course. The research provides new idea for the introduction of this new sports project into the PE system in higher education, which is of profound meaning and great use for reference.
