There is a mutual developmental effect between the curriculum reform and the professional development of the middle school English teachers. On one hand, the curriculum reform provides orientation for the teachers' professional development. On the other hand, the English teachers' professional development provides motives for the curriculum reform. In education fulfillment, the curriculum reform provides new ways for the professional development of the teachers. The curriculum reform is for sure to bring about the improvement and professional development of the English teachers.From the perspective of the Chinese new curriculum reform, the paper strives to pay close attention to the motive of the foreign and domestic curriculum reform and the special demands for the teachers. It also studies the special characteristics of the teachers under the circumstance of the new curriculum reform. Under the new curriculum reform circumstances, the special English characteristics the teachers must have are the followings: four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing; linguistic knowledge; teaching capability; awareness of different culture fields; teaching strategies; scientific research capability; innovative capability. The English educational experts have already paid close attention to the special characteristic of the English teachers of the middle schools. No matter what part the English teachers of the middle schools play, more demands will be needed for the English teachers' special characteristic.There are six parts in this paper as follows:Part One, the foreword. In the foreword, the author shows the cause and background of the study and demonstrates the main content and methods of this research.Part Two, literature review. Part Three, the requirements for the professional development of the middle school English teachers under the new curriculum reform.Part Four, the investigation of the conditions of the middle school English teachers' professional development in Huishan district in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.Part Five, some practical measures on promoting the professional development of middle school English teachers.Part Six, conclusion.
