Teachers' professional development is inevitably the request of the new curriculum reforms, and at the same time, the need of the teachers' self-improvement. The new educational concept in the new curriculum reforms in China constitutes new challenges for the new English teachers in primary schools.The present study, based on the new educational concept in the new curriculum, makes a review of the researches and theories of teachers' professional development both in China and abroad, analyzes the differences between the new teachers and expert teachers, and discusses the professional quality in the new curriculum reform. The present researcher, via interviews and questionnaires, from the perspectives of educational ideals, expertise, professional competence and self-development consciousness, investigates the personal concern and internal professional structure of new English teachers in Wuxi primary schools, thus exploring the feasible strategies to help them adapted to the new curriculum reforms and maintain sustainable development, which, inevitably will improve teachers' quality and deepen educational reform in English teaching in primary schools.The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the present study. The second chapter reviews the relevant previous researches and theories both in China and foreign countries. The third chapter investigates professional development of new English teachers in primary school. The fourth chapter presents the analysis and discussions of the study, and proposes the strategies to quicken professional development .The fifth chapter presents the findings and conclusions, as well as some suggestions for further studies.The study is aimed to develop new English teachers' awareness of and provide some theoretical support for personal professional development in China. In modern curriculum reforms, cultivation of professional development consciousness, concerns on the formation of their professional development ability and the realization of their personal professional development in English teaching are our common pursuit.
