Abstract/Summary:
After 25 years of rapid development with an annual economic growth of 18%, Xiamen Special Economic Zone has risen from an insignificant island town to an important central city on the west side of the Straits. Its population and economy have developed with priority, while vocational education is relatively lagging behind. Therefore, it is representative and valueable to take the city as case study. At the same time, according to Mr. Pan Maoyuan's education theory of external relations law, this paper focuses on the external relation law of education, discussing the innovative vocational education in Xiamen at a kind of innovative point of view.Firstly, this paper gives an introduction to the development of demographic structure, economy and vocational education in Xiamen. On this basis, the author makes a research on the relationship of Xiamen's vocational education with demographic structure and economic development through SPSS statistical software. By establishing association patterns between the economic growth and scale of vocational education in Hangzhou and Shenzhen, this article predicts the future scale of vocational education development in Xiamen; at present, the industrial structure of Xiamen has changed gradually from"secondary, tertiary, primary"in the past to"tertiary, secondary, primary". Therefore, according to"Petty-Clark's Law", the distribution of professionals should also have some change, mainly to tertiary industry. Hereby, by using Xiamen's tertiary industry growth index from the year 1990 to 2005 to measure the development of tertiary industry, and using Q-cluster method of system clustering to classify those samples, the paper concludes that of the tertiary industries in the next few years, transportation, warehousing and postal industry, information transmission, computer services and software industry will receive great development which will create strong demand for staff. Based on these research and analysis, this article predicts the development scale of vocational education in Xiamen and proposes its policy orientation. Finally, the author would make an empirical analysis of the development of privately-run higher vocational education college: Xiamen Huaxia Vocational College. There is much innovation in this paper: firstly, it makes profound research on the relationship between vocational education and economy according to the development model of those in Hanzhou and Shenzhen, based on which the relationship model is built. Then the author explores the development mode of vocational education in Xiamen in accordance with the models of Hanzhou and Shenzhen in order to give some reference for the government's policy. Secondly, based on the age census data of Xiamen in 2000, using life table of technological analysis, this paper makes an age life table in order to forecast the number of people suitable for vocational education in Xiamen. Thirdly, with an analysis on the development trend of tertiary industries in the last fifteen years, and Q-cluster method of system clustering to classify those samples as well as SPSS statistical software, this paper concludes that industries such as transportation, warehousing and postal industry, information transmission, computer service and software industry will enjoy higher rate of increase, which are also industries that will have strong demand of staff in the next few years. Finally, the author employs all the above information to guide the strategic adjustment of college major structure in Xiamen Vocational College.
