Attempting to answer the questions above, the dissertation clarifies the theoretical connotation of the reading ability of modern Chinese writings, defines the requirements of the reading ability in the Entrance Examination from the Examination Outline, and with a number of questions from the Entrance Examination as examples, explores the practical training methods of reading, especially of the abilities of information-selection, generalization, comprehension, appreciation and exploration, in order to raise comprehensively the students's reading ability of modern Chinese writings.
