The portfolio assessment is a new way of student assessment which appeared in western countries in 1960's. It is a processing and developing assessment for students with collecting each student's representative and learning outcomes and reflecting report, to reflect student's knowledge of specific areas, skills and attitudes as well as the efforts, progress or achievements', and fully reflect the process to anticipated targets. It was developed more quickly in the basic education after which was introduced to China in 1990's. With the popularization of concept of qualitative evaluation and the implementation of the reform of teaching in higher education, promote Portfolio assessment is of great significance.Analyzing domestic and foreign relative researches, the paper put the basic theory of portfolio assessment. The paper worked out a series of practice plan with two experiments in course of television program production in Nanchang university. According to the process and results of experiments, it analyses the root causes,of the problem. The experimental research selected news class and telecast class to have former and latter examination experiments in one term. In the experimental class, each student had a portfolio to record his/her scores. At the end of the term, the scores became an important part of his/her final mark under the former assessment criterion.With the teaching experiment, the research tested the portfolio assessment can improving the student's using ability of the major knowledge and the sense of cooperation. But the portfolio assessment still have more research and practice in theory and practice, combination with other assessment methods, multi-agent assessment and so on.
