With the development of Chinese educational reform, autonomous learning has become a familiar and still hot issue these years. Learners and educators have been exploring this educational approach both as a means of learning and as an educational end.Numerous researchers have conducted studies in this field and come up with various theories. According to National Curriculum Standard for Senior High English, autonomy is required as one of the educational aims to reach, abilities to develop, and ultimate characteristic goals for students to achieve. Autonomous learning of different levels is described from Level 6 to Level 9 in detail for senior high school students. After a survey of current learning situation, the author finds that students' awareness of autonomy and learning responsibility has improved. However, most of the students are still teacher-dependent, and they don't know how to put autonomous consciousness into action. The present-day learning situation is still far from our goals. What specific methods and materials might best help to transform the innovational idea into practice? Is there a platform which can be set up for autonomous learning performance?Based on humanism and constructivism, Learner-centered Teaching Plan (LTP) is proposed to replace traditional Teaching Plan (TP) to answer these questions in this thesis. The author focuses on the research of autonomous learners' behavior, so more emphasis is placed on practicality than on theories. Through questionnaires, investigation, data analysis and an empirical research, the author has come to the following conclusions: 1) LTP is an effective approach to promoting autonomous learning; 2) The characteristics of autonomous learners' behavior based on LTP-learning are:a. Initiative and independence: Learners engage in English learning initiatively and independently;b. Individuality: Learners have their special goals and learning styles .They have classes for their own aims.c. Practicality: Students make progress through varieties of practice in or out of class.d. Question-based and task-based learning: Questions and tasks are main clues to LTP-class.e. Creativity: Learners produce their new questions through full communication with others.
