By the angle of the interactions between rural elites and village people of two village in Guanzhong, Shaanxi province, this paper get to completely study the dimension, the intensity, the breadth on functions of Chinese village political elites, economic elites and social elites, and make use of the methods of on-the-spot interview and questionnaire survey. This research want to make us deeply understand the rural elites functions, and has some references for practice to the building of village. Conclusions of the research are as follows:1. Political elite is the real power elite in rural society. They have a decisive impact on the development of rural community. Political elite is significantly stronger than economic elite and social elite on functional intensity and functional breadth. In village, political elite has a wealth of human resources network, so their circle of acquaintances are bigger than other people, and has strong political mobilization capability. Furthermore, political elite can provide public goods by their superior political status.2. Economic elite and social elite are gradually disappeared to meet the functional needs of rural society. In the early of reform and open-up, rural economic elite is the main promoter in the rural economic development and economic structure change, and the backbone of sustainable economic development. But as the maturity of city industry and the decline of township enterprises, rural economic elite is disappearing with the further growth of rural economy. Political participation of rural economic elite also does not make rural political life more democratization, just extensions rural political status on a certain extent. In village, social elite neither assume the functions of moral educations, can not do efforts in other areas of the rural community. Rural social elite has small circle of human relationships, lower social status than political elite, without authority. So they lack of enthusiasm for political participation.3. About village elite functional problems, we should break the state-and-society theoretical framework, and be from the perspective of the market economic globalization to analysis. Because this will be more in line with Chinese current village social realities, and also avoid the risk of functional purpose theory. In addition, the pure experience research make us lack of a whole understanding about the current rural elite, which is no more practical significance to rural governance.
