Career guidance refers to services and activities intended to assist individuals, of any age and at any point throughout their lives, to make educational, training and occupational choices and to manage their careers. Career guidance in schools of America has been developing. Not only promoted by law, but also it functions distinguishingly in education systems of all the States. We can use what we learned from Studying on career guidance in American schools as reference for our schools.The main body of this thesis can be divided into four parts:Chapter one introduced the background and developing courses of career guidance in America on the basis of the history of American career guidance. Theories of career guidance were enumerated, and career education was circumstantiated which influenced deeply in this area.Chapter two discussed the overall situation of career guidance in American schools, including primary school, middle school and high school, which separation based on National Career Development Guidelines. Through describing goals, content, and performance of career guidance, to see the concrete situation of career guidance of American primary and secondary schools from a microscopic point of view.Chapter three judged the characteristic of career guidance and social effects, to provide a general awareness to career guidance of American primary and secondary schools from a macroscopic point of view.Chapter four presented the developing courses and situation nowadays of career guidance in schools of China. Compared with that of USA, raising some proposals of conception, content and methods of career guidance in primary and secondary schools of China. Meanwhile, career guidance in American schools will bring some enlightenment to the reform of China's education.
