Graduate students play a significant role in the human resources of our country, which is also an essential part of the socialist modernization construction as well as the valuable human resources of China.With deeper economic system revolution and the rapid appearance of various forms of economic system, the standard level of the graduate students is naturally raised. Graduate students are now facing a great challenge on employment .Therefore, how to help graduate students to win in such a competitive situation becomes the key task and a necessary academic research for universities.American is the first country to take advantage of career guidance as a specific social service work and take it as an important academic research. There is no doubt that the theory and practice relating to career guidance are much maturer than any other country. Although there are many differences between exist in America and China, such as political system, economic system and culture background and so forth. They share many similarities in terms of the object, content, service object, the set up of the institute and so in the process of career guidance. This paper tries to compare these two countries and later analysis the discrepancy so as to come up with a series of tactics by penetrating the theory of career guidance which is good for developing the conduction of career guidance.The paper first to illustrate a series of definition relating to employment, career, career development and so forth systematically and take the practice of career guidance performing in university of china as the research object to compare and analysis the discrepancies between America and China. Second, to compare these two countries from history background and reality, the set up of the institute, the input of appropriations to the team construction of career guidance respectively and so forth. The paper accordingly state that the main reasons of producing such discrepancy lie in the special economic system and culture background. Third, according to what has been mentioned above to come up with some feasible tactics, which contain the setting up of the theory of career and the conduction of career guidance courses, the content and form expansion of the conduction of career guidance, the practice of career education, the improvements of employment system and policies and so on.To penetrate the theory of career guidance into the practice of career guidance in the universities of china means a lot to the improvement of the career guidance of china which offer us a theory support to all steps of individual shaping education.Therefore taking advantage of some useful valuable items of American career guidance as reference and come up a series of feasible tactics can improve the practice of career guidance. This research can devote a lot to the conduction of career guidance in university of our country and play an instructive role in the practice of career guidance by penetrating the theory of career guidance.
