The Present Situation, Problems And Solutions Of Migrant-Labor's Children's Compulsory Education

Following the reform and opening up, migrant-rural labor is a special group that inevitably appears during the period of the economic and social transformation in our country. Especially since the 1990's, the scale of floating population in our country has continuously increased. Simultaneously, the structure of migrant-rural labor in our country has changed greatly. One of the most remarkable changes is the formation of family of migrant-rural labor, which results in the problem of the children's education. Therefore, concerning and resolving this problem is not only an objective demand of accelerating the process of modernization, but also the realistic need of promoting the balanced development of compulsory education and improving the quality of people's literacy.The children of migrant-rural labor's refer to those who are between 6 years old and 16 years old.They are in the stage of compulsory education, and they live in cities with their parents for over half a year and have the ability to study. There are two parts of these children, one part is following their parents, living and studying in the cities, which is called"floating children"or"floating followers"or"flying dandelion". The other part is living in their hometown, taken care of their grand-parents or other relatives, or living and studying in the board schools. In this thesis, the object of study is the first one----the floating children.This thesis primarily applies qualitative research methods, which specifically consist of analytical method and individual-case study, etc. Through the inspection of the current compulsory education situation of floating children, this thesis divided the floating children's into three parts: school education, family education and social education. The thesis analyses the causes and puts forward the solutions to the problem.This thesis mainly promulgates the root reasons of floating children from the household registry system; education input system and nearby entering school system three aspects, then proposes solutions to this problem which based on the levels of the government, the school and the family as well as the social stratification.
