With the society's rapid development which requires more advanced vocational talents, as an important part of China's higher education, higher vocational education is increasingly raised in education layers in recent years. To realize the goal of higher vocational education, the humanist cultivation of students in higher vocational college must be paid more attention to. Under the background, higher vocational educators should be much concerned with the extracurricular reading for students in higher vocational college, which is an important factor to improve students' comprehensive quality especially humanist quality. At present, the extracurricular reading for students in higher vocational college have many problems such as out-of-order, low effectiveness, lack of methods, and incorrect strategies. It is necessary to study the extracurricular reading and its effective guide for students in higher vocational college. According to the new characteristics and conditions of higher vocational quality education itself, it is necessary to adhere to correct guide thought, follow the rales of students' personality development, master the meaning of reading as a method of developing humanist quality of students, and take systemic, deep study and discussion on targeted characteristic guide methods of extracurricular reading. Therefore, we carry out the actualities survey and guide study on extracurricular reading for students in higher vocational college, including the following main aspects: Chapter one is introduction, which points out that social development needs more advanced vocational talents and that the humanist cultivation of students in higher vocational college must be paid more attention to in order to realize the goal of higher vocational education which is to cultivate workers with high vocational skill and good moral quality, and extracurricular reading is one important factor to cultivate this kind of humanist quality. Besides, this chapter shows the study meaning, actualities, methods and contents. Chapter two deals with the meaning and value of healthy and effective extracurricular reading cultivating students' humanist quality in combination with students' quality characteristics and higher vocational quality education. Chapter three analyzes the extracurricular reading actualities, characteristics and existing issues by investigating extracurricular reading hours, reading types, aims and difficult issues in reading. Chapter four sums up the reasons of existing issues in reading according to the characteristics of students themselves and the rules of personality development ,and also the new characteristics and conditions of higher vocational education. Chapter five puts forward some practical suggestions by thinking about the interests, methods, habits and evaluation, mastering the meaning of reading as a method of developing humanist quality of students and taking systemic, deep study and discussion on targeted characteristic guide methods of extracurricular reading.
