It's a common problem that students feel difficulty in learning physics. The reasons why learning physics is so difficult are various, which include the factors not only in cognition but also non-cognition. The factors in cognition involve cognitive level, cognitive style, meta-cognition and cognitive structure etc.This dissertation explores the factors of cognitive structure which causes difficulty in leaning physics, taking examples from mechanics study in high schools. The research methods adopted in this study include survey, testing, literature summarizing, and experiment, etc,. This study shows that the main problems in cognition structure for those students who have difficulties in learning physics focuses on the foundation, organization and representation of knowledge. These limitations result in great difficulties in learning new knowledge and applying knowledge to solve problems.Based on the theories of constructivism and modern cognitive psychology with regard to cognitive structure and knowledge representation, this study suggests the following teaching strategies. First, conducting elementary measurement to understand the students' cognitive structure; Second, setting circumstance of the problem to optimize the construction environment; Third, building the knowledge network to reveal the order of physical knowledge; Fourth, making use of various ways to optimize the form of knowledge representation; Fifth, focusing on the original physical problem to accelerate the internalization of cognitive structure.Finally, this study conducts a relevant demonstration research through teaching practice. The teaching practices show that the five teaching strategies above are doable and the positive effect in teaching is obvious.
